Just when you thought it was safe …. the goosanders arrived again at the Dell. Thanks however, to our ever present Healey Dell bailiff Eddie Earnshaw, who spotted the fish eating machines one morning and our quick acting fishery officer, Johnny (‘ernie’) Kershaw, (the reason for his new nickname will remain a closely guarded secret), the ropes were placed across the water by later that day. By the time you receive this newsletter, the ropes will have been placed across Syke as well. “ Well done fellas”.
For the benefit of our new members, goosanders began to use both our waters as their winter feeding grounds about three years ago. Those fishing during that first winter, couldn’t buy a bite and the fishing, the following summer, was the poorest the club had seen for many years. We have since ‘roped’ the waters between November and spring, to prevent the birds from landing.
The waters may still be fished whilst the ropes are on and although it may cause a little inconvenience (sorry carp lads), we have found it to be a most effective preventative measure.
Annual subscriptions are due again from 1st January 2008. These may be paid either :- 1). By post, cheques to our treasurer, Barry Watkins, 26 Somerset Grove, Rochdale. OL11 5YS. Cheques payable to Rochdale Walton Angling Society, please. Members renewing subscriptions by post MUST include their membership card.
2). By attending the February 2008 annual subscriptions meeting. (you will be informed of the date and venue for that meeting in the February newsletter). Subscriptions will not be accepted after the subs’ meeting without paying the initial entrance fee again.

The November Members Meeting, will be held on Monday 19th November 2007. 8pm at the Alpine Gasthoff, Whitworth Road, Rochdale, (upstairs). (note new venue for this meeting).
Although it may seem a little early, I would on behalf of the President and Committee, like to wish you and your families very best wishes for the coming season, (Christmas and New Year that is !!!).
